ARKANSAS (KNOE) – The solar eclipse will occur in 11 days and the Arkansas Department of Transportation has released travel advice for those coming to the area to see it.
53 Arkansas counties will be on the path to totality, making it a major tourism event. ArDOT says this event will likely be the largest tourism event in Arkansas history. A traffic management plan and other resources have been released to help you take advantage of the eclipse.
Along with a traffic management plan, ArDOT has created a list of do's and don'ts to stay safe on the roadways.
DO:
- Prepare for additional traffic jams on the roads
- Turn on your headlights during the eclipse
- Watch out for pedestrians
- Try to stay back a bit to avoid major backups
- Visit IDriveArkansas for live traffic conditions
- Use common sense
- Have fun
DON'T DO IT:
- Try to see the eclipse while driving
- Stop on the road or park on the shoulders
- Travel during or immediately after the eclipse, if possible
