As summer approaches, a number of Anne Arundel County camps are available to keep children engaged, active and entertained.
Camps range from adventure-filled outdoor camps to specialized programs in arts, science and sports.
“There is no better time to learn something new and no better place to do it than Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks,” said Jessica Leys, director of the Department of Recreation and Parks. . “We improve lives.”
Sixth grade and under
Families looking for child care for their students in grades one through six can register for Summer Daycare 2024. There are seven one-week sessions costing $180 per week.

Still Waters Day Camp
A full-day camp for children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. Activities may include arts and crafts, sports, drama and field trips.
The camp begins June 24 and ends August 2, with most sessions costing $268.

Wild adventurers nature camp
The Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary is located near the head of the Patuxent River in southern Anne Arundel County.
Campers can catch critters in the creek, sneak through the swamp, paddle the river and search for fish.
Additionally, there will be lessons about the Native Americans who lived along the Patuxent River and the animals that live here today.
Designed for children ages 11-13, the camp runs July 24-28 and costs $250.

Teen camp
For older children in grades seven through ten, there is Teens on the Go camp.
Locations include Crofton Middle School, Arundel Olympic Swim Center, North Arundel Aquatic Center and Kinder Farm Park.
Camp runs from June 24 through the week of July 29 and costs $329 for most weeks.

Chess camp
For children ages 6-12 and located at Arnold Elementary School July 1-3 and Folger McKinsey Elementary School July 8-26. All equipment is provided and the cost is $399 for the week. For more information, visit chessacademy.com/pages/anne-arundel-county-camp-locations.
STEM Camp
Held at the Moose Athletic Center in Glen Burnie, this camp for children aged 6 to 12 takes place from July 29 to August 2 and from August 12 to August 16 at a rate of $175. For more information, visit mooseathleticcenter.com.
Fencing
Still at the Moose Athletic Center in Glen Burnie, this camp will be hosted by Larbi Soufiane, Moroccan fencing champion.
All equipment will be provided and there is a $175 fee. The camp is aimed at children aged 7 to 14 and takes place from June 24 to 28. For more information, visit mooseathleticcenter.com.
Adapted day camp at Mayo Beach
For campers ages 6-21 with special needs and medical accommodations, there is Mayo Beach. Accommodations are made to activities for those with individualized educational program plans, different learning styles, and physical disabilities.
“Siblings of campers with special needs are also invited and it’s a wonderful experience for everyone involved,” said Jacque Hurman, chief of recreation services for the county Recreation and Parks Department.

Camp HERricane
Hosted at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold from July 15-19, the Anne Arundel County Office of Emergency Management is hosting a free summer camp called HERricane.
HERricane aims to encourage young women in secondary and college to explore careers in emergency management.
“By sparking an interest in this field at a young age, we hope to inspire the next generation of leaders who will help build resilient communities,” said Preeti Emrick, director of the county’s Office of Emergency Management.
