Location and history
Anantara The Marker is nestled in the rejuvenated area of Dublin known as Silicone Docks, offering a new perspective on the Irish capital. This stylish, contemporary hotel offers stunning waterfront views while remaining close to the city's historic landmarks. Even for locals, the atmosphere seems revitalized, seamlessly blending old and new.
The hotel staff, especially Guest Experience Manager Derek Anthony Brennan, enhances the experience with upbeat and friendly service. Derek's local anecdotes and stories, often accompanied by a recitation of poetry by WB Yeats, add a touch of authenticity to your stay. The hotel also offers free bicycles, allowing guests to explore the area at their leisure.
Architecture and design
Originally opened in 2013 and renamed Anantara in 2023, the property features a striking modern design by Portuguese architect Manuel Aires Mateus. The exterior of the hotel, inspired by the Cliffs of Moher, features a unique checkerboard pattern that immediately catches the eye.
Upon entering, guests are greeted by a spacious and bright lobby with a cantilevered ceiling reminiscent of the Giant's Causeway. This airy 67 meter long space encompasses the public areas, including the bar and lounge, creating a welcoming environment.
The interior design features modern furnishings accented with bright colors and lush greenery, providing a contemporary yet comfortable atmosphere that reflects the beauty of the Irish landscape.
Food and drinks
Culinary delights await you here, starting with a fabulous buffet breakfast featuring a range of fresh fruits, juices and cooked meals. You can opt for hot dishes like pancakes or indulge in traditional Irish fries. The hotel's destination restaurant, Forbes Street, helmed by celebrity chef Gareth Mullins, champions Irish produce. The menu highlights exceptional local ingredients, with flame-grilled John Stone County Longford dry-aged beef taking center stage.
Other exquisite options include Wicklow turbot and venison, as well as vegetarian and vegan dishes that highlight local flavors like Colcannon. For a more casual experience, the Bar & Lounge offers a variety of sandwiches, salads and sharing plates.
Although the rooftop lounge is currently closed for renovations, its planned reopening in spring 2024 promises 360-degree views and a vibrant atmosphere. In the meantime, enjoying a classic Irish coffee at the bar is a delicious alternative.
Spa and wellness
Wellbeing is the cornerstone of the Anantara experience and The Marker does not disappoint. The on-site Anantara Spa offers a range of rejuvenating treatments, while the standout feature is the 23-metre indoor slate-lined swimming pool, widely regarded as one of Dublin's best hotel pools. Guests can relax in the steam room, sauna or hot tub, creating an oasis of tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
Whether you're looking to unwind after a day of exploring or spend a full day at the spa, this city sanctuary provides the perfect retreat to recharge and pamper yourself. My weekend here was nothing short of exceptional, blending modern luxury with a rich sense of place. I left inspired and reinvigorated, eager to return to one of Dublin's best addresses.
