Gord McNulty submitted this photo and note: “It was a pleasant surprise when I recently saw nothing less than a 3/4 scale replica of a vintage Hawker Fury biplane on display as part of a popular rope climbing attraction in Trenton, Ontario, Canada.
“This nifty little biplane, previously owned by the Dart Aviation Museum in Mayville, New York, was the result of a restoration project by the Tiger Boys of Guelph, Ontario. Tiger Boys founder Tom Dietrich hoped to have it back in flying condition before his passing in 2021. However, given the magnitude of the job, Tom’s colleague Cam Harrod sold it on behalf of the Tiger Boys. The beautiful aircraft now sits at Homestead Adventure Park in Trenton. Young climbers have a blast on the ropes.”
“The replica, which was to be powered by a 125 horsepower Lycoming engine, features the distinctive insignia of the Royal Air Force's 43 Fighter Squadron. A 'Lady in Red' emblem was added to the nose to match the red trim of the RAF's colours. In addition, the aircraft is named after Flight Lieutenant (later Group Captain) Peter Townsend, the legendary pilot who flew the Fury when he joined the RAF and began his illustrious career.”
