Officials said the number of visitors to the water park is close to pre-COVID levels. Alex Hatton, the duty manager, said there are an average of 2,000 to 3,000 people at the water park and on Saturday they estimated there were 4,000.
Work to convert the site into housing began in June 2021.

Park visitors talked about how to beat the heat at the water park.
“We have kids, so there’s plenty to do,” Katrina Ketchens said. “We also have shade and food, everything we need when we’re outside, beating the heat and enjoying family.”
A woman traveled with her family from Georgia.
“Oh my gosh, this is awesome,” Geana Thomas said. “There’s about 20 of us here today, and we’re from Savannah, Georgia, and we came all the way here to be here.”
This is useful for the water park because even the game rooms are filled with people looking for something to do when you want an outdoor sauna.
Hatton, the service director, spoke about the plan to keep the park open.
“We’re hoping to stay open for more than a year,” Hatton said. “That’s the kind of problem we’ve been facing lately. We’re hoping we can last a few years and have a business plan and be able to do renovations and upgrades for all of our customers.”
He also mentioned the influx of visitors.
“There’s been an increase in the number of customers in the last few days, and even the last few weeks since the heat wave hit,” Hatton said. “There’s been a lot of families coming in to cool off in the water park. We’ve had an impressive number of visitors.”
The water park portion hosts Military Appreciation Weekend so all veterans and active military members receive free admission to the water park.
