CHICAGO (WIFR) — A record number of Illinoisans are expected to travel between December 21 and January 1.
AAA predicts that six million Illinois residents will travel at least 50 miles from home during the holiday season. This represents 117,633 more people than the previous record.

Consumer spending rose nearly 5% as inflation fell and employment increased, contributing to the increase in travelers this year, according to AAA.
“Travelers should expect roadways, airports and cruise terminals to be busier than usual,” says Debbie Haas, vice president of travel at AAA. “So, finalize your travel plans now and give yourself more time to reach your destination. We also suggest travel insurance, which provides assistance in the event of winter weather or unforeseen circumstances that interfere with your plans.
