MADISON, Wis. (WKOW) – “A beach, somewhere.” If the lyrics to this Blake Shelton song sum up your current mood, you may be wondering if you can still make it in time for spring break, which begins next week for the Madison Metropolitan School District and other schools of the region.
A local travel agent offers encouraging information, saying yes, it's still possible to have a beach vacation this month — but you may need to manage your expectations first.
“It could mean that instead of going for seven full nights, you go for five nights, it could mean that instead of taking a cruise from one port, you take it from a different port,” said Brian Pittelli, owner. and travel specialist at Madison-based Blue Sea Vacation. “So there are still hotels available. There are still seats on flights. The cost may be higher than expected, but you can still make it.”
He said cruises in particular could be a good option for last-minute travelers, as many want to book before they leave.
Pittelli said that while there are certainly still vacation deals out there, you should expect to pay more for flights this late in the spring break season.
He suggests looking at flights from larger airports like Chicago, which may be farther away but could offer more affordable prices.
And if you're really looking to save money, Pittelli has a pro tip: “Make sure you bring your own sunscreen, because it's very expensive when you're actually at your destination.”
