AAA Shares Fall Travel Trends and Safety Tips
BOISE – Fall is just around the corner, and according to a new AAA study, the cooler weather offers exciting travel opportunities.
“For empty nesters or those with flexible work schedules, this is a great time to see the sights without the crowds,” said Matthew Conde, public affairs director for AAA Idaho. “There’s definitely a lull between Labor Day and Thanksgiving, and travelers can take advantage of that.”

According to AAA national data, domestic travel bookings for September and October are down 7% from last year, despite the cost of travel falling about 3% from a year ago.

AAA Fall Travel Tips
- Plan for sudden changes in weather. Pack a warm coat and blanket in your car, even if temperatures are pleasant at the beginning of your trip.
- Replace windshield wipers if they skip or streak.
- Find the best places to see fall foliage. Use a search engine and social media to find the latest information collected from the community.
- If you venture into the backcountry, be aware of wildlife. Remember that many animals travel in groups of at least two or three animals. If you see one, there are probably others nearby.
- Look for fall festivals and fairs happening in the area.
- If possible, book your first flight in the morning. The plane is usually already on the ground, which will allow you to avoid delays that can occur later in the day.
