Some things are easier to do alone. While travel is often marketed as something to do with your partner, friends, or family, there are real benefits to traveling alone. If you book a solo trip to Singapore in April, you know it's going to happen and you won't have to listen to excuses from people who are leaving. Plus, you won't have to worry about whether your travel companion is having fun or explain yourself if you change your plans at the last minute. The appeal is real: According to a recent report from Kayak50% of travelers in the United States plan to travel alone this year.
But where are all these solo travelers Some destinations are better suited to solo travelers than others, but there are a lot of things to consider when designating a place “solo travel friendly” — including safety and cost. Luckily, the team at Kayak used their data to determine which destinations get good hotel ratings from solo travelers and where things like flights and accommodations won't break the bank.
Why is Berlin the best solo travel destination in Europe?
Berlin tops the list. Kayak gave the German city a 100% rating for solo travel, recommending it for those interested in history, street art, and techno clubs. Berlin also scores highly for things like the cost per meal ($31 or HK$242) and the average price of a night’s hotel ($168 or HK$1,310). It’s also home to a slew of museums, concert halls, and theaters, meaning you’ll have plenty to do.
Second on the list is Vancouverwhich is a great choice for those living in the Pacific Northwest. (The Canadian city is a three-hour drive from Seattle, so you don’t have to worry about airfare.) Kayak gave Vancouver a 90% rating for solo travel, recommending it to those interested in adventure, nature, and craft beer. The city stood out for its average hotel rating for solo travelers, relatively low spending per meal ($35 USD or HK$273), and perceived safety.
