If you're planning to hit the road this Labor Day weekend, AAA has some tips for you.
Adrienne Woodland of AAA Michigan tells us that travel is expected to increase by about 9% this Labor Day and the cost of travel is expected to decrease by about 2%. The reason is lower gasoline prices, which she attributes to lower crude oil prices.
Woodland says everyone should be prepared before heading out on a trip.
““Nationally, AAA expects to rescue more than 300,000 stranded motorists over the Labor Day weekend,” Woodland said. “The three most common reasons will be flat tires, dead batteries and lockouts. So some of these things can be avoided if you make sure to have your vehicle inspected before you hit the road. You want to look at things like your tires, battery life, engine oil and other fluids.”
Woodland says the worst days to travel will be Thursday and Friday. The worst times to travel on Thursday will be between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. The worst times on Friday will be between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. She recommends traveling at times other than those listed.
Woodland says a particularly annoying aspect of this situation will be the mixing of Labor Day vacationers and normal road users.
