Qantas is gaining market share from its main rival Virgin Australia, new analysis shows, as its budget subsidiary Jetstar takes delivery of bigger planes and adds cheaper seats to a declining domestic aviation market.
As Qantas prepares to release its full-year results on Thursday, Barrenjoey analyst Matt Ryan said data from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission showed the group, including Jetstar, grew passenger numbers by 6 per cent in the June quarter, excluding its second-half passenger growth of 8 per cent.
