For the last hurrah of summer, it turns out that many people are heading to Boston.
According to data collected by the American Automobile Association (AAA), Boston is one of the most popular cities to travel to on Labor Day.
AAA, a nonprofit organization of automobile clubs, is the largest leisure travel organization in North America. Its Labor Day travel trend forecast is based on booking data from Thursday, Aug. 29 through Monday, Sept. 2 of this year, as well as booking data from the same period last year.
Among the top 10 Labor Day destinations in the United States, Boston ranks fifth, ahead of cities like Chicago and Las Vegas. Tourist attractions are among the most popular reasons to travel, according to AAA data, adding to the appeal of Boston's rich history.

Other Labor Day Travel Trends
According to AAA, domestic travel over the holiday weekend increased 9% over last year, and the cost of traveling within the country decreased 2%. The most popular type of travel is Alaska cruises, which explains why Anchorage and Juneau made the list.
For motorists, gasoline prices are about $0.30 less per gallon than last year. AAA predicts that the best times to travel by car are before 11 a.m. on August 29, before noon on August 30 and September 1, after noon on August 31, before 10 a.m. on September 2 and after 1 p.m. on September 3.
International travel, particularly to European cities, is also popular over the Labour Day weekend, although it is down 4% from 2023. Vancouver tops the list of international travel destinations.
