Officials say Bronx travelers could see record levels of travel for this year's July 4 celebrations, making for a very busy holiday weekend.
The Port Authority expects 5.5 million people to leave Newark, LaGuardia and John F. Kennedy airports and hit the road from today through Sunday, July 7.
Travelers are advised to allow some time and leave early. The Port Authority recommends being at the airport at least two to three hours in advance, depending on domestic or international flights.
For those planning to take public transportation, subways and buses will operate on a Saturday schedule starting July 4 for the holiday weekend, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. The Long Island Railroad and Metro-North will operate on Sunday schedules.
For motorists, AAA says the best time to hit the road today is before noon. The busiest times to see traffic are between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. today.
