SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)— When we think of summer, we think of beaches. And there's no shortage of incredible places to travel, with or without a passport. NCC News reporter Krystin Lilly talks to us about her top three recommendations for the season.
Lisbon, Portugal
For an affordable yet rewarding destination, add Lisbon, Portugal to your list. This city is known for its unique architecture and rich history. From stunning monuments to incredible hotels like Casa Do Príncipe, nestled in the heart of the city.
Don't miss out on exploring the landscape. Book a boat tour and enjoy the experience of driving the boat yourself. If that's not your thing, swimming in the crystal clear waters is a great alternative. I came across photos of Praia de Cascais on Pinterest and had to see them for myself. For those who love to explore, the majestic Pena Palace is a must-visit.
San Juan, Puerto Rico
No passport? No problem. Playa Colora in Puerto Rico offers a stunning combination of clear water and red sand. Just make sure you don't submerge your drone in the ocean like I did!
Old San Juan is full of vibrant, colorful buildings and mouth-watering foods. For thrill-seekers, El Yunque offers adrenaline-pumping adventures with its zipline tours through the national forest.
Local sites
If heights and flying aren't your thing, the Syracuse Airpower Tour lets you explore planes without taking to the skies. The tour includes several daily ride options and you can even sit in the cockpit to learn about the flight instruments.
Central New York, known for its Finger Lakes, offers a variety of sights to see. Carpenter's Falls in Skaneateles is awesome to see. For food lovers, Syracuse's Salt City Market offers a plethora of dining options to satisfy your cravings.
Summer has just started, so it's not too late to plan an exciting trip. Whether you're looking for the historic charm of Lisbon, tropical Puerto Rico, or local adventures in central New York, these destinations promise unforgettable experiences.
