The best way to combat jet lag? Shay Mitchell says “I don't believe it.”
Changing time zones is often one of the most exhausting parts of traveling. After hours spent cramped in a tiny airplane seat, the body's difficulty adjusting to a new time zone often leaves travelers tired throughout their stay.
To film the first season of The thirst, Shay visited four different South American countries in a short period of time, but she couldn't let a little sleepiness get in the way of her plans.
“I have a strict jet lag policy…I don’t believe in it,” she said. “When you land at your destination, you drop off your stuff and you go to that time zone.”
Sometimes going all the way is the best option, especially when you have tight shots that you otherwise would have missed. Of course, recovery may take a little longer when you return home, but to get the most out of your trip, overcoming jet lag seems to be the best way.

“I actually got really sick while we were on the road…sicker than I've been in a long time,” Shay confessed. “I really can't recommend this… when you're filming a travel show, the show has to go on. You have flights to catch, plans to make and difficulties, which makes it a little difficult.”
In between tasting some of South America's best drinks, Shay and his team still tried to visit some of the great attractions in the countries they visited.

“For this show, we didn't have time to indulge in jet lag or rest,” she continued. “When you see Machu Picchu, Palenque in Colombia, and the vineyards and San Telmo in Argentina, we’re the ones acting like jet lag doesn’t exist.”
When it comes to packaging, Shay's BEIS brand is her go-to.
Launched in 2018, Shay uses BEIS luggage on all her trips, demonstrating her confidence in the brand she created.
“BÉIS is an extension of me,” she said. “There is no zipper on a bag that I didn't choose or a sample that I didn't approve. I travel a lot for work, so I'm always using products, testing them and I see what works and what doesn't work, and as I became a mother and had young children, the brand grew as well.”

Since launching the brand, Shay said “everything can be a learning lesson,” evolving the brand as he goes. During his trip through South America, BEIS was his go-to for all his packaging needs.
“I'm not one to travel light,” Shay confessed, detailing the different pieces that make up her travel kit for a trip. “I need our biggest roll, the 29,” to get started. Then I always have a 21-inch roll with me on the plane, in addition to one of our tote bags.
Despite the ups and downs she faced during filming The thirst, the show aired all four episodes on Max through late May and early June, ultimately meeting the show's goals. Although there is no news yet if there is a season 2, Rest assured she'll take all the travel tips she's learned with her on her next adventure.
