Take advantage of these stopovers if you want to make more of your travel budget and discover more of the world.
Who doesn’t want to see more of the world almost for free? Some airlines offer near-free stopover programs – usually in their main cities – that allow you to visit another country very inexpensively. Which means you get an almost free mini vacation. These stops vary in length from 24 hours to 10 days and offer you the opportunity to satisfy your interests with a well-planned program.
When you book flights next time, look for airlines that offer these perks: free or discounted stays, plus a sightseeing program to help you make the most of your time.
Abu Dhabi with the Etihad Stopover On Us package
Etihad Airways is offering a free stopover in Abu Dhabi for up to two nights at a partner three-star hotel in the city. Perks include 24-hour check-in and free in-room Wi-Fi. To take advantage of this offer, book a connecting flight via Abu Dhabi on the Etihad website, then select your stopover package and check hotel availability on the airline's dedicated page. Reservations must be made at least 72 hours in advance of travel and availability depends on flight booking.
Istanbul with Turkish Airlines Stopover Program in Istanbul
Recently launched for Indian travelers visiting Istanbul, the program offers a free stay at select partner hotels, giving you time to explore this fascinating city on your own.
Doha with Qatar Airways stopover
This stopover program allows travelers to stay up to four days in Doha, with discounted hotel rates – starting at US$14 for a four-star hotel and US$23 for a five-star hotel. The airline offers the stopover free of charge and the reservation must be made via the website.
Iceland with the IcelandAir stopover program
Although you don't get free or discounted hotel stays under this stopover program, you do have the option to extend your stay in Reykjavik for up to seven days and explore at your own expense.
