The first time I flew, I went to Hawaii when I was seven or eight years old. I had always wanted to go there and went with my mom and dad on a family trip. We rented a jeep, took the tour and I swam with the dolphins for the first time. When I was nine years old, I went to New York to film School of rock and it was my second time on a plane. It lasted four or five months in New York and it was the longest time I was away from home. My mother and I basically lived in a hotel in Manhattan and I had never done anything like this in my life. It made me fall in love with New York.
I had never been to Thailand before and we stayed there for almost two months (for The mother of the bride). It was the longest I had been away, so I didn't really know how to pack. I'm the type of person that, even if I'm flying somewhere for two nights, I bring a gigantic suitcase and check it out. So it was a little difficult. I remember being very stressed because I also usually pack my bags in the morning before leaving somewhere. I throw everything in the suitcase very quickly. When you go somewhere for two months, you can't really do that. But it was really beautiful there. I had gone through a breakup shortly before this opportunity presented itself, and being in a brand new place like that with new people, experiencing something like that, and just having fun was the perfect time.
The ocean in Thailand is not like the ocean in Los Angeles. The water is really clear, blue and beautiful and people are constantly scuba diving. Going to different islands was really fun and it's not something I've ever done in my life. Being able to take a boat to an island and just swim and jump in the ocean was awesome.
I was surprised by the amount of bugs in Thailand. There were cicadas that were so loud at night that it was sometimes difficult to sleep. I'm not afraid of bugs here. The hotel room I was in was really nice, but the shower was all glass and when I went to take a shower in the morning, there were just these little lizards everywhere, all around the shower on the edge of the shower. shower. outside the glass. I got used to it all, but I was never really a big fan of bugs. When I got back to Los Angeles, I was like, I'm so strong now.
Rapid fire
Window seat, middle seat or aisle seat?
I of course like the window seat, because it's just nice to be able to look out whenever you want. I also feel like it's easier to fall asleep and have your own little space. I feel like most people are windows, right? But some people choose an aisle if they want to be able to access the toilet without crushing anyone.
Favorite way to pass time on a plane
I always sleep on planes. One of my greatest qualities is that when I'm on a plane, I fall asleep before it takes off and basically wake up when it lands. So for the trip to Thailand, everyone kept telling me that it wasn't going to work like that because it was so many hours. But I slept the whole time. I slept all the way there and all the way back. I proved them wrong.
The biggest fear of traveling
He was bugs but not anymore. Lose my luggage. I went to Japan years ago to meet a friend of mine who had been in Japan for three weeks. It was kind of her dream to go there and she wanted to do it alone. When the last week of the trip came, she sent me a message and said, āIām taking it back.ā I don't want to be alone. I, on a whim, jumped on a plane, and when I got to LAX, I went through security and my bag just disappeared. Someone stole my bag. I had my purse, so I still had my ID and wallet, but I didn't have any of my stuff. They tried to track the person down and watched airport security footage, but they were never able to get it. So I left for Japan with nothing. It was my worst nightmare and it happened.
I met my friend at Disneyland in Japan and ended up having to buy all these underwear and stuff right at the Disneyland gift shop. It was so bad because I couldn't find adult underwear. I had to cut the elastic with scissors to make it fit. We were laughing at least.
The best advice to combat jet lag
When I first got to Thailand, it was cool because we had two days before we had to start rehearsals or anything. The first full day, I almost slept again. So I slept the whole 17 hours on the plane and then I slept so much once I got there, so I felt really good. I think a lot of people can't get on a plane somewhere and do nothing for that long, but I would say if you're lucky enough to have a whole day off, don't feel bad about having to do it. sleep a little and collect yourself. It makes the rest of the trip more fun when you get that first rest.
Favorite Travel Snack
I eat pretty poorly and I love sweets, so I would say any kind of candy. I like sour gummy worms. I got some barbecue chips a week ago on my way back from New York and ate them occasionally on the flight home. Every time I woke up, I ate a few barbecue chips. Every time I go to the airport, the first thing I look for is a bag of Peanut M&M'S to eat during the flight.
Ordering takeaway drinks on a plane
I'm always very dehydrated when I travel, so I usually buy a very large water at the airport before getting on the plane. Normally I just drink water on the plane, which is a bit boring, but it also helps with jet lag.
