ROCHESTER, Minn.—Summer is here and for families with children, that means it's vacation time.
Local travel agency Travel Leaders says there are a few things families should do before they go on a trip.
Laurie Johnsrud, travel consultant at Travel Leaders, says: “Summer travel should be pretty okay, but if you're considering flights you also need to remember that some destinations are seasonal and therefore not served all year round . »
She says families should plan their trips months in advance to keep costs down, especially if they plan to fly. One option for those looking to travel on a budget is to take a road trip.
Johnsrud says: “If they want to have a driving holiday, do something a little more local or if they want to go overseas, but if you're going overseas you need to make sure you have appropriate documents required for that destination.”
Travel Leaders recommends that those traveling internationally carry their passport with them.
Those who want to travel abroad without breaking the bank can visit Mexico, which the agency says is an option where the money will go a long way. Families who can't get out of the country but still want to have fun away from home can look to Florida or join day trips in the area.
For travelers taking medication, the agency has a helpful tip if you plan to fly.
Johnsrud says, “If you have a prescription, don’t put it in your checked baggage, put it in your personal bag so you know where it is at all times.
