Areas where the FCDO advises against travel
Your travel insurance could be invalidated if you travel against the advice of the FCDO. Consular support is also very limited when the FCDO advises against travel.
Mount Ruang, North Sulawesi
The FCDO advises against travel within 6 km of the Mount Ruang crater in North Sulawesi. This is an exclusion zone set up by local authorities. Mount Ruang erupted on April 16, 2024.
Mount Marapi, West Sumatra
The FCDO advises against travel within 3 km of the Mount Marapi crater in West Sumatra.
Mount Sinabung area, Karo regency
The FCDO advises against travel within 5 km of the Mount Sinabung crater in Karo regency, North Sumatra.
Mount Semeru region, Lumajang regency
The FCDO advises against travel within 5 km of the Mount Semeru crater in Lumajang regency, East Java. The FCDO also advises against travel to the southeastern area of Mount Semeru along the Besuk Kobokan River (approximately 13 km from the crater). You must stay at least 500 m from the bank of the Besuk Kobokan River.
