Australia has seven of the most 'boring' tourist attractions in the world – and one iconic WA building has been dubbed the 'worst' of them all.
The list lasts was designed by Solitaired.com based on an analysis of 66.7 million Google reviews of 3,290 tourist attractions in 71 countries.
This has named Western Australia's Boola Bardip Museum the least interesting place to visit in the country – and the 16th least interesting tourist destination on the planet.
According to the majority of Google reviews, the museum “simply lacks soul”.
While this isn't a good idea for the destination, it's not the only one, with museums making up 33% of “boring” places.
The “worst” was the Museum of Science and Industry in Floridawhich came in seventh in the world.
The most “boring” attraction on the list is the Branson Scenic Railway at Missouri.
Western Australia's Bolla Bardip Museum has been named Australia's most boring tourist destination
Washington State Museum Boola Bardip
This museum is described as the state's “premier cultural organisation” and has WA's “scientific and cultural collection”, including interactive exhibits and cutting-edge technology.
The museum opened in 2020 after four years of construction and is home to five heritage sites, including the Old Perth Gaol, Australia's “oldest” vineyard dating from the 1850s, Hackett Hall and the Old State Library which includes the giant statue of a blue whale named Othon.
'Very disappointed with the To The Moon exhibition. Went there yesterday with our 12 year old grandson and found the experience very boring and quite disorganized. For what was there, it should have been a free event, definitely not worth the money,” wrote one upset grandparent.
“Well that was a disappointment. The museum was my favorite for so long and I was so excited about the upgraded one. What a waste of millions of dollars that was,” said another.
Most of the negative reviews referred to the old museum – which was “filled with artifacts” – instead of “dull cardboard display cases.”
Legoland
Legoland Discovery Center was the next Australian destination on the overwhelming list at number 24. Four of the franchises made the list.
The center is based around the popular toy and has 13 Lego-themed play areas.
Melbourne's Legoland also made the list, alongside three other Legoland centers.
“Extremely disappointing. The place was dirty, two very lousy rides, Lego City was average. Honestly, they charge way too much for an indoor playground,” one guest wrote.
Another said they were disappointed with the food and customer service when they visited the one in Melbourne.
The Sydney Museum
The Museum of Sydney arrived at number 32 with people complaining that it was “too cramped”.
The modern building is built on and around the remains of Australia's first government house.
The physical remains of the colony's first government house and archaeological relics from the colony's first year of existence can be seen through glass openings in the museum's forecourt and lobby. This is the oldest evidence of its type in Australia.
“Thank you for cornering us to the point where we couldn't even walk. Despite booking for an hour, we were placed in two queues for around 20 minutes,” one woman said.
“I have never been so disappointed by a museum in my life. “A lot of it is about the construction of the Opera House, and very little actual history,” wrote another.
The Sydney Museum was number 32 on the list
Immigration Museum
This Victorian tourist spot, which focuses on the state's immigration history through thought-provoking exhibits, comes in at number 52 on the list.
The Migration Collection comprises over 6,000 objects which document the experiences of Victorians since the 1830s and, therefore, the long history of cultural diversity of the Victorian and wider Australian population.
“I became a member of the museum and all three locations are disappointing. The Immigration Museum is the most unsatisfactory of all. The ship has been removed to make way for functions, there is no coffee or food there,” said one disgruntled visitor.
Mona
Mona in Tasmania entered at number 76, with over 11,000 reviews and an average rating of 4.4 on Google.
The original Underground Museum, which stands for Museum of Old and New Art, is one of Hobart's must-sees and is famous for its unusual and often confrontational exhibits.
But it's clearly not for everyone.
“There’s a very strange dark feeling. There's a lot of sexual art, even a wall with a video of three naked women standing. And a wall full of female genitalia. This seems very un-God,” one woman wrote.
People complained about Mona, with many suggesting the exhibits were too crude
“It’s not my idea of art. The building was amazing, the furniture around the bar was beautiful. If you have decided to offend, you have achieved your goal, in very poor taste. I would have hated having a child with me. Totally inappropriate. The noisy tunnel we had to go through was terrible. Even with my fingers on my ears, my eardrums hurt. What this has to do with art, I have no idea,” wrote another.
But others spoke highly of it.
“Perhaps also the largest museum I know. I spent a total of four hours there. We went as friends and after talking it seemed like we each missed different parts. Very interesting concept and collection. The tunnels that connect the different sections are also very cool,” said one visitor.
Luna Park
Luna Park Melbourne wasn't far behind at number 80, with many describing the theme park as “too expensive”.
The iconic destination features a clown-faced entrance like its sister attraction in Sydney.
Featuring rides, side games and food stalls, the park provides a permanent carnival atmosphere in the middle of the city – and has done so for 110 years.
But it's not for everyone.
“The train ride only ran once every half hour. So slow to run!!! The queue was almost 2 hours long. Too expensive. Badly managed. The journey management is too slow for a cloudy day with few people,” said one visitor.
Luna Park in Melbourne left guests with a bad taste in their mouths
“Wouldn't go back in the old days, entry was free, now you have to pay $20 and you get a free ride, place is too small for the amount of rides, you wait over an hour” the line waiting for certain rides, is nothing like it was when I was younger and a teenager.
The bell tower
The bell tower of Perth I arrived at 92 and guests complained that it rings too often and is too loud.
The Swan Bells are a set of 18 bells suspended in a specially constructed 82.5m copper and glass campanile.
They are cast from molds made from one of London's most famous churches in Trafalgar Square, the bells of St Martin-in-the-Fields.
“My aunt and I would have loved to pay the entrance fee and go up, but the staff were more interested in their conversation. Very disappointing,” one person said.
