Feeling FOMO about not traveling for the Great Texas-Indiana Eclipse of 2024? Yeah, we know. Then it's not too early to dream about the next total solar eclipse, which will take place in Iceland and Spain on August 12, 2026. This makes for an enticing choice for travelers.
By 5 p.m. GMT, the area of totality will extend over western Iceland, including the famous and isolated Snæfellsnes peninsula and the Reykjavik area, with more than two minutes of power outage. Then the moon's shadow crosses northern Spain, in a strip located between Barcelona and Madrid, for almost two minutes of totality. It ends at sunset on the Balearic Islands (Ibiza, Mallorca, Menorca, etc.). Eastern Greenland, the far north of Russia and part of Portugal will also be plunged into total darkness.
The next total solar eclipses visible in the continental United States? Set reminders for August 23, 2044 and August 12, 2045.
