Melbourne-based travel journalist, editor and podcaster Kirstie Bedford has joined Karryon Luxury as a writer and content producer.
With over 25 years of experience, highly respected travel journalist and editor Kirstie Bedford's expertise spans many travel communications verticals, including print, digital, radio and podcasting.
She spent the last two years working for Signature Media, publisher of Iconic luxury travel and style And Vacations and travel review. Before that, Kirstie was a senior content writer and editor at Luxury Getaways; editor of Arrived magazine, produced in collaboration with The travel company; and founding editor of Luxury Getaways Magazine.
She also spent more than eight years in communications management positions, notably for Tourism New Zealand, where she managed major media events including the world premiere of The Lord of the Rings – The Return of the King.
In mid-2023, Kirstie launched Australia's newest independent travel podcast, The world is waiting. When she's not writing for work, you can find her quietly working on her mystery novel manuscript or hiking in the Gippsland region.
Katrina Holden, Editorial Director of Karryon Luxury, said of the appointment: “I am very pleased to have Kirstie, an experienced communicator and professional, on board to help us with the launch of Karryon Luxury.
Kirstie's experience is extensive and she brings to the team her expertise gained in travel publishing and experience working directly for a major tourist board and travel wholesaler. She's also down-to-earth and fun – she'll be a great addition to the Karryon team.
In her part-time role, Kirstie will contribute to luxury editorial articles, new stories and profile articles, as well as curating branded content for Karryon Luxury. Bedford will continue his freelance work and other projects outside of Karryon.
Kirstie added: “I’m delighted to be joining Australia’s leading travel brand to contribute to its new luxury vertical Karryon. »
“I have extensive experience in luxury travel, from my early days promoting luxury lodges in New Zealand, whilst working as a media projects manager for Tourism New Zealand, to being founding editor of the Luxury Escapes magazine here in Australia. Being able to continue to work in this field is an absolute privilege that I do not take for granted.
“The luxury space has evolved over the years, and it’s no longer just about gold faucets and thread counts. Rather, it's about the luxury of being in places few have traveled (with a comfortable bed, of course!), treading lightly, immersing yourself in nature, and creating a unique connection with culture.
These are all areas that are close to my heart, and I look forward to contributing by increasing my focus on the luxury sector to enable the industry to capitalize on the vast opportunity that premium travel represents,” she declared.
