Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is shaping up to be an intriguing narrative adventure for fans of the original Life is Strange games, but despite having four main characters at the forefront of the story, it turns out we won't be able to only play as one of them.
The upcoming story-driven game stars four girls, Nora, Autumn, Kat and Swann – former friends who reunite 27 years after vowing never to speak to each other again due to a mysterious incident at the heart of the narrative . While one might have expected the game to switch between the four characters to tell their collective story, speaking to Edge in issue #394, producer Luc Baghadoust and creative director Michel Koch confirm that this does not is not the case.
Koch – who also served as co-director of Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2 – explains that while he personally enjoys changing perspectives in games, the mechanics can make you feel disconnected from what's happening inside. 'screen.
“I play a character in one scene, but in the next scene I see this character talking to me, and I don’t choose the words?” he says.
On the other hand, it hints that Bloom & Rage's conversations might unfold a little more organically than what we're used to in Life is Strange. While we can't expect the perspective of the game to change between players, you should feel like you're fully part of the group, but without fear of being the only one moving conversations forward.
“You may want to listen more clearly to someone or someone else and try to step in or interrupt someone while they are speaking,” he adds. Additionally, we can expect to see some “interesting things for interactivity” when it comes to having impact and having “agency” in the game’s narrative.
Much of what awaits us in Lost Records: Bloom & Rage still remains a mystery. The game was revealed during The Game Awards in December 2023 and has only received one trailer so far. It is expected to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X later this year.
