NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Millions of people are expected to travel during Christmas week for the holiday, and the TSA said thousands of those people will pass through Nashville International Airport.
BNA airport officials also explained how travelers could avoid delays.
When talking to people at the Nashville airport, many said they were flying over the United States.
“I'm heading to Charlotte, North Carolina to visit family,” said BNA traveler Emily Chaplin.
“I'm actually traveling from Oklahoma City to come here to Nashville,” said Kyra Oliver, another BNA traveler.
Chaplin and Oliver are just two of the 30,000 people crossing the BNA today.
“I was a little worried about the expected traffic, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I feel like I went through everything really quickly,” Oliver said.
Oliver arrived in Nashville at noon. TSA officials said their busiest hours are between 5 a.m. and 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. If travelers are flying during these hours, TSA officials suggest getting to the airport at least two hours early.
“There is always a little anxiety when traveling, especially during the holidays, however, I am grateful and grateful that the weather seems to be cooperating with us this year,” Chaplin said.
Although Chaplin said she hasn't encountered any delays, she still constantly checks her airline's app. BNA officials said travelers can also sign up to receive their text notifications in the event of an airport-related delay.
“I loved the online boarding pass. I decided to do something different and it helped me get through it a lot faster. I could just be dropped off right at the TSA gate,” Oliver said.
If people are traveling with gifts, the TSA has asked them to make sure they are not wrapped. People don't want to be in a situation where a TSA agent has to unwrap their gift if it's flagged by their machine.
“So far, knock on wood, everything has gone smoothly and easily, and everyone has been cheerful and helpful,” Chaplin said.
To travel smoothly, BNA officials advised people to plan as much as possible.
The TSA said the busiest days for travel would be December 26 and 27.
