More Kentuckians will jet off to their vacation destinations this year, according to Triple-A Bluegrass' public affairs manager. Lori Weaver Hawkins said that overall, 1.5 million people will travel between Friday and New Year's Day, and 3 percent of them will do so by air, an increase of 8 percent from to last year. She said patience should be a priority — even at Lexington's Blue Grass Airport.
“I think sometimes we take for granted that the process of getting through our airport is so nice and smooth, but it's going to be busier than usual, so you still want to leave extra time to get to your flight.”
Weaver Hawkins recommends leaving early for airports and offers another tip for air travelers.
“Download the airline app to your phone. It is of great help if there are any gate changes, if there are any delays or cancellations you will receive these notifications through this app.
Weaver Hawkins said travelers should not leave luggage and valuables unattended and those staying at hotels should be aware of their surroundings and, if possible, try to arrive during daylight hours.
