If recent listings are any indication, Portland's most popular sites could see an influx of tourists next year.
Barely two weeks ago, the Pink City found itself on Travel + Leisure's 50 Best Places to Travel in 2025 – and now another travel magazine has confirmed this ranking in its own annual summary. Portland landed a spot at No. 25 in the digital travel guide Travel Lemming's list of the 50 best places to visit in 2025.
The list is the product of dozens of destination suggestions submitted by travel experts, which were then voted on by the publication's editorial board. It's the team's way of speaking out against the rise of AI-driven travel itinerary tools and prioritizing human recommendations, according to a press release.
Portland is a city of many facets, Lea Rose Allbaugh, senior editor at Travel Lemming, said in the release.
“Downtown is grappling with changes and challenges,” she said. “Yet the city still shines with its quirky personality.”
The city is a hub for outdoor adventures, with many iconic natural destinations, like the Columbia River Gorge, Canon Beach and Mount Hood – existing only a short day trip away. And if you prefer to stay closer to your hotel, Allbaugh also highlights some of Portland's local beauties: places like the Portland Japanese Garden, Pittock Mansion and others hiking trails throughout the city.
Allbaugh describes Portland's surroundings as “idyllic, yet alluring,” but she also praises its local shopping scene – praising the city's many shops, restaurants and cafes. As for places not to be missed, she mentions Luc Lac Vietnamese Kitchen, Powell's Books, Kalesa Coffee and the various vintage shops in Nob Hill and Northeast Portland.
The best time to visit is the sunniest months between June and October, according to Travel Lemming (this is also the main wedding season. Perhaps a destination wedding in one of Portland's picturesque parks is in your future?)
Portland shares the list with dozens of international destinations and just 11 U.S. cities, including a Pacific Northwest neighbor (Bellingham, Washington).
