SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WSBT) – We're preparing you for the busiest travel time of the year outside of Christmas.
You can expect these roads to be busiest on the Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon before Thanksgiving.
And if you're flying, South Bend International Airport is expecting record numbers of travelers starting Wednesday.
Many people are familiar with the 311 rules when it comes to what liquids you can and cannot take on the plane.
Officials say there are a few Thanksgiving-specific items you may be able to take with you if you follow some key guidelines.
With the addition of direct flights via Breeze Airways and an additional flight to Knoxville via Allegiant.
South Bend International Airport has increased its flight capacity by 25% over last year.
16,000 travelers are expected between Wednesday and Sunday.
Officials say it's important to take advantage of unique ways to travel with your own contribution to the Thanksgiving meal.
“So you can actually take sauce in your carry-on, as long as it's frozen solid when you go through that security checkpoint. Pies are permitted as a take-out item. Any solid food is allowed as hand luggage. And of course, if you pack something correctly, you can put it in your checked bag,” said Julie Curtis, vice president of air service marketing and development at South Bend International Airport.
