Turkey Day is almost here and we're ready to help you navigate your way through Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) with ease! Whether you're coming home for family celebrations or heading out on an adventure with friends, we have the recipe for a stress-free vacation travel experience. Here's how to make your trip as smooth as pumpkin pie:
Arriving at the AUS: no turkey trotting on the roads!
Roads to AUS can be as busy as a Thanksgiving cookout, so plan ahead to avoid traffic jams. Check for real-time updates on DriveTexas.org before leaving. And if you're looking for a no-fuss option, hop on CapMetro Itinerary 20which offers a convenient ride to the terminal (and saves you gas money!).
Attention : THE Access ramp to the car rental lane and the South-west exit from the cell phone field will have intermittent closures during the holiday season. Follow the temporary signs and use Spirit of Austin Lane Or Hotel Drive for smooth access to Terminal.
Park like a pro: don't fly away
Holiday parking fills up faster than your favorite side dish, so reserve your spot early at ABIAParking.com or call (512) 530-3300 to check availability.
- Frequent Parking Program: It's back! Now is the time to check your email for account updates or register online at https://www.fppaustin.com/.
- Use the shuttle? Allow extra time: shuttles typically run every 15 to 20 minutes.
For pick-ups and returns, the upper level of departures And lower arrival level are fair game. Just follow the signs so it's quick and easy.
Timing is everything: arrive early!
You wouldn't wait until the turkey was burnt to start cooking, would you? It’s the same for traveling!
- Arrive 2.5 hours before domestic flights And 3 hours before international flights.
- If you're checking bags, returning a rental car, or traveling in a large group, give yourself a little extra wiggle room.
- But no need to camp! AUS recommends arriving a maximum of 4 hours before your flight. Trust us, the terminal is busy and we don't want you to wait too long to board your flight.
Make security a breeze
With three Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints leading to all doors, we get things done!
- Anticipated flights? No problem. Checkpoints open bright and early at 3 a.m.
- TSA Pre-Check And Clear are available at Checkpoint 2 West.
Packing Tips That Won't Leave You in a Pickle:
- Solid foods like pies, vegetables or rolls? Perfect for hand luggage. But mashed potatoes and gravy? These are liquids, so put them in your checked baggage.
- Are you traveling with blocks of ice? Make sure they are frozen properly or the TSA will have to take them away.
- Keep those gifts unwrapped: the TSA may need to take a look inside. Better yet, post them in advance to travel lighter!
Register like a travel pro
Skip the line, not the cranberry sauce, with these tips:
- Use mobile boarding passes or print one at a self-service kiosk.
- Some airlines even offer curbside check-in and you can avoid the ticket counter altogether.
Remember to check with your airline for flight updates. Even though Texas skies are sunny, delays may occur elsewhere, so stay informed.
Accessibility for every traveler
At AUS, we're making travel easier for everyone this holiday season.
- GoodMaps app: This orientation tool is perfect for travelers who are hearing impaired, blind or visually impaired. It offers step-by-step instructions via haptics, visuals and text.
- The TSA cares about: Need additional help? Contact TSA 72 hours before your trip for personalized support throughout the security process.

Flying Allegiant or Frontier?
These airlines operate from South Terminal, located at 10000 Logistics Lane, not the main Barbara Jordan terminal. Shuttle service is available, but on-site parking at the South Terminal is strongly recommended.
