I love traveling. I think it’s something you have to do as an artist! You see new places, try different foods, meet amazing people, and it's such a natural way to get inspired. Whether it's a vacation or a tour, the excitement is always there for me.
I did my first US tour last year and we had a tourist bus— bunk beds and everything! I was so excited to finally be able to live out this tour bus dream. There's something magical about being on the road, creating a show and meeting fans across the country. It was such a fun experience and I can't wait to do it again.
One of my most memorable trips was when I traveled to Jalisco with my family. Returning to where my family roots are in Mexico holds a special place in my heart. And I can't recommend the sunsets there enough, they are breathtaking. This journey inspired much of the music I now share through Meetings. It's a beautiful, deeply personal tribute to my past, my family and my heritage, while remaining true to who I am today. With my latest album, I explored every corner of my journey, these intersections between Los Angeles and Mexico. But with Meetingsit’s about finding new meaning in these corners and discovering deeper connections. So I knew I wanted to go back to where it all started, so I went to Jalisco. During this trip, I celebrated my birthday, surrounded by my family, in this magical place where my story began. It was an unforgettable moment, surrounded by food, mariachi, tequila, the whole family, full of love and inspiration.
I filmed my own music video for the first time in Monterrey for my song “Como Diablos” and it was so special. It was the first time I shot a video in Mexico. The whole team was very friendly and I felt so at home. It was extremely hot and the shoot was so long but I will never forget it. The day before, I was singing at the Baja Beach Fest there and I performed my song “Por El Contrario” for the first time and I was so moved. All I could see was a sea of flashing lights and everyone was singing. I have goosebumps and everything. I remember when my biggest fear was singing in Spanish, but my fans embraced this journey with me. They connect like I connect with my music and I felt so lucky to be there, in Monterrey, doing what I love to do.
Rapid fire
Window seat, middle seat or aisle seat?
Window because it's nice to look out while traveling.
Traveling light or overpacking?
It depends on the trip. I wouldn't say I'm over-packing, I'd say I'm prepared. I'm the type of person who has the mentality of “What if I need this in the future?” » You never know!
Your favorite way to pass time on a plane?
Listen to music or audiobooks. I'm a big fan of personal empowerment books. If I'm not sleeping, I'm probably listening to something.
Biggest fear of traveling?
Probably losing my luggage.
The best advice to combat jet lag
Jet lag can be brutal – I've certainly been caught in a few interviews with my fair share of jet lag. My tip is to hydrate like crazy, get some exercise, and whatever you do, don't pass out before the sun goes down. Get your biological clock back on track!
The one thing you should always take on a cruise?
Sunscreen!
Best advice for new cruisers?
Just in case, take medicine for motion sickness and wear comfortable shoes.
Favorite travel snack?
Anything spicy. I love Hot Cheetos or Takis. There has to be a little warm kick.
Ordering a drink on a plane?
I wish it was more exciting, but honestly anything that keeps me hydrated, which on a plane is usually a bottle of water. It's annoying, but any kind of travel dehydrates me, so I know I'm doing myself a favor by sticking to water. I don't know who I should talk to about getting coconut water on planes, but it would be a dream come true!
