Lee (Ellen Kuras, 2023), 11:50 a.m., 8 p.m., Sky Cinema Premiere
The life of Lee Miller is a sadly familiar case of a female artist whose work was overlooked due to her collaboration with a famous man, in this case as a model for Man Ray. It is on his later career as a war photographer that director Ellen Kuras and star Kate Winslet focus in their fierce film. Winslet – in a role she was born to play – is Lee magnetic and direct, a woman who won't take no for an answer. When World War II broke out, she landed a job as a photographer for Vogue, putting herself at the forefront of the London Blitz, the liberation of Europe and, chillingly, the discovery of the death camps – fleeing in fury and shock at the inhumanity. she sees. Music by John Williams (Laurent Bouzereau, 2024), Disney+
After all these years, it's still a surprise to realize that John Williams is the author of so many great soundtracks. Laurent Bouzereau's affectionate tribute to the greatest composer in the history of cinema rightly devotes much time to his long collaboration with Steven Spielberg (Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Schindler's List, these five “spiritual” notes in Close Encounters), but there is also Star Wars, Home Alone, Harry Potter… Son of a jazz drummer and a dancer, Williams also found time to direct and create pieces for Yo-Yo Ma and Anne-Sophie Mutter. A bringer of joy. Software
Freedom (Mélanie Laurent, 2024), Main video
Actress-turned-director Mélanie Laurent has clearly taken ownership of the success of the Netflix detective series Lupine. This fact-based story about 1970s thief Bruno Sulak (Emily in Paris' love interest Lucas Bravo) fits into Lupin's romantic “gentleman thief” angle while chronicling Lupin's incident-filled career of its protagonist. From supermarket heists in the south of France to jewelry thefts in Paris – including a few prison escapes and a love affair involving accomplice Annie (Léa Luce Busato) – Laurent remains sunny, sexy and largely free of violence.
