Southwestern Outdoor Adventure recently traveled to Canyon Lake Gorge in Canyon Lake, Texas to explore the geology of the Texas Hill Country through visible faults. Led by Brannon Bargo, assistant director of Outdoor Adventure, a group of Southwest students saw ancient fossils, Cretaceous limestone and even dinosaur footprints estimated to be 110 million years old. While hiking the 64-acre site, the group learned how the underground permeable rock cavities of the Trinity Aquifer absorb, store and move the rainwater that many Central Texans rely on for drinking water and water.
