A mile and a half across the country, the destination with the most upvotes was a South American hotspot that has only sparked controversy in recent decades and received a renewed dose of healthy skepticism thanks to the series at Netflix success. Narcos. But are we misunderstanding it?
“Colombia. They have come a long way since the days of Pablo Escobar. Medellín is a beautiful city and Colombians in general are very warm and friendly people. I like to say that I have never met a bad Colombian mood (but don't spell it “Columbia”).
Next on the list is a beautiful place in Eastern Europe that is going through a very difficult time from many of its EU compatriots (and a recently departed EU country, in particular) :
“Romania. Bad reputation especially in the west of the EU, but it's a beautiful country with generous and down-to-earth people (who usually have an amazing sense of humor. The country itself is absolutely beautiful, especially Transylvania/Ardele and the Danube Delta. The excellent wine is also a bit of a secret.
Then came an Asian competitor who, given its growing political power around the world and the terse tone adopted towards it by Western media and politicians, doesn't really stand a chance, at least as far as its potential is concerned. as a tourist hub. is concerned:
“China has some of the most unreal and underappreciated landscapes in the world, and little known to the world. There’s obviously a ton of history and culture as well.”
For those who love the island vibe, this will be a nice addition. Still suffering from the bad American press that it apparently earned during the Cold War, this destination loses points for its culinary exploits but is otherwise highly recommended, particularly to rum lovers:
“Cuba: The people are wonderful, the beaches are beautiful… but don't expect much from the food. It's good. Bring condiments… But the people, the culture, the music… the rum. This is all incredible.
To complete the top five, we return to Eastern Europe. Another country that once fell on hard times for its EU allies – although less so today – is a much-neglected hotspot for history, arts, natural beauty and culture. bulk…
“Poland. Krakow is my favorite city in Europe”
There you have it: five of the most unduly criticized, ignored and under-visited nations in the world. Next time you're planning a trip, consider taking a look. Not only do they promise cultural exploits far beyond their ill-received reputation, but this author has a sneaking suspicion that you'll be able to exploit their unkempt nature for great travel deals.
