JACKSON, NJ — Six Flags Great Adventure plans to demolish a roller coaster and two other rides, according to a report.
Building permits filed in Jackson Township show that Green Lantern, Twister Top and the Parachute Tower are all marked for demolitionas reported by NJ.com.
Green Lantern, a stand-up roller coaster featuring a 72-foot inclined loop, was moved from Kentucky Kingdom and opened at Great Adventure in 2011.
Photos on social media showed a crane near Green Lantern and members of the crew posing together for their “final” photos.
Rumors also circulated among roller coaster enthusiasts that Kingda Ka would also close its doors, as NJ.com and the Asbury Park Press reported. This prompted fans from across the United States to flock to the park to experience the thrill one last time, including one who traveled to pay their respects by playing. “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes.
Six Flags has not commented on the closure rumors and told Patch that they “plan to share ride information and additional park news very soon.”
Kingda Ka, which opened in 2005, is the tallest steel roller coaster in the world at 456 feet high and also one of the fastest.
