Hidden gems to explore
The smallest desert in the world
Carcross Desert, Yukon
Yes, one of Canada's greatest hidden gems is a desert, albeit the smallest in the world. The Yukon's dry climate and high winds have resulted in the creation of 540 acres of sand dunes in an area that was once the bottom of a large glacial lake. Today, the dunes of Carcross Desert extend to the shores of beautiful Bennett Lake, where beachgoers can sunbathe on its fine, white sand.

An underground slide
Horne Lake Caves, British Columbia
Vancouver Island has the highest concentration of caves in Canada (there are more than 1,400). One of the most amazing places to experience an underground adventure is in Horne Lake Caves, where you can go caving to your heart's content in absolute darkness. If that's not enough, you'll also have the chance to slide down Canada's only underground slide and rappel down a waterfall!
