I love spring, summer and fall where I live Sonoma, Californiabut once the rainy season hits in November, I prefer to escape to a dream destination without the crowds. scenic fall getaways to beach destinations, November offers something for every shoulder season traveler. Cultural festivals, Christmas markets, and natural beauty (not to mention the whale migration!) make it the perfect time to plan a getaway. Athens, Greece

Buenos Aires combines the best of my three favorite cities: Parisian elegance in the Recoleta neighborhood, New York City’s bustling energy in Palermo Soho, and a touch of Roman charm that permeates the rest of the city. November is the best time to explore this beautiful South American city in spring. Foodies will enjoy the incredible Argentinian steaks (paired with a glass of Malbec, of course), while culture seekers can explore the museums, theaters, and cool street art. Dance the tango in the city’s traditional dance halls, admire the diverse architecture, and stroll the colorful streets of La Boca (pictured above). You might even catch a street dance performance. football match!
Oaxaca, Mexico
Oaxaca is a beautiful place to experience the Día de Muertos (November 1-2), where families build offersor altars, at home and decorate the city with colorful marigolds. The city hosts festivals, costume parades, and candlelight vigils to honor departed loved ones. Visit markets filled with artisanal treasures and explore historic sites like Santo Domingo Church and the ancient Zapotec ruins of Monte Albán. The city is also a foodie’s paradise, offering traditional dishes like mole and tlayudasa toasted tortilla topped with refried beans, cabbage, avocado, meat, Oaxacan cheese, and salsa. Home of mezcal, Oaxaca has plenty of places to sip tequila's more flavorful cousin. Visit the Montelobos Distillery or sip it poolside at The Parador Hotel Alcalaan 18th century mansion located in the historic center of the city.
The Berkshires

November in the Berkshires is ideal if you're looking for a slower pace surrounded by New England's beautiful fall foliage (for the best views, head to Mount Greylock(pictured above). Located in western Massachusetts and part of the Appalachian Mountains, the Berkshires offer natural beauty as well as antique shopping, farm-to-table restaurants, and luxury spas. Explore scenic trails and visit historic sites like Edith Wharton's HouseVentfort Hall Mansion and the Gilded Age Museum, just five minutes away House of lifea charming stay in the town of Lenox (decoration lovers will be delighted).
Aspen, Colorado
You can still take in breathtaking fall views around the Rocky Mountains in early November, even as snow begins to blanket the mountainous landscape. Popular trails like Rio Grande and Smuggler are quieter this time of year, offering a peaceful respite before the holiday rush. Known for its world-class ski resorts, Aspen becomes a winter wonderland when the ski (and après) season kicks off in late November. Beyond the slopes, enjoy the town’s luxury hotels and sumptuous restaurants like Mawa's Kitchen And Aquolinaand charming shops. Aspen also has an impressive arts scene, with galleries and musical and cinematic events around the area to enjoy.
Maui, Hawaii
Visiting Maui in November is the perfect getaway for a relaxed getaway, with fewer crowds and more affordable stays. Wailea Restaurant Week (November 5-11) offers gourmet dining at a fraction of the cost, and the Made in Maui Festival on the first of the month is a great opportunity to find unique Hawaiian souvenirs. Watch the sunrise at Haleakalā, browse Maui’s delicious food trucks or relax under swaying palms. November also marks the start of whale-watching season. Watch for migrating humpback whales along the peaceful shores.
Lisbon, Portugal
Lisbon in November offers the best mix of mild weather, smaller crowds, and more affordable prices. Explore the city’s landmarks, like Belém Tower and Jerónimos Monastery, and ride the iconic canary-yellow Tram 28 through historic neighborhoods like Alfama and Saint-Georges CastleNovember is also a great time to enjoy Lisbon's vibrant café culture and sample traditional pastries like Pasteis de Nata. Participate in local festivals and events, such as St. Martin’s Day on November 11, which celebrates the end of the grape harvest. Lisbon’s charming cobblestone streets, tiled hilltop houses, and relaxed pace make it a perfect fall getaway without the crowds.
Chiang Mai, Thailand

In November, Chiang Mai transforms into a magical city with its Yi Peng and Loy Krathong festivals. Thousands of floating lanterns light up the sky during Yi Peng, while candle-lit boats, or KrathongsGlide along the rivers during Loy Krathong, both of which coincide with the full moon. The city enjoys dry days and highs of around 80 degrees, making it the perfect place to explore more than 300 temples, including Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh. Escape to the peaceful Doi Inthanon National Park, home to Thailand’s highest peak, then head to Chiang Mai’s bustling Night Bazaar.
Key West, Florida

Enjoy outdoor activities like snorkeling in crystal clear waters, sailing, or strolling through this charming city. November temperatures in Palm Springs hover around 78 degrees, making it a great time to explore the area. Stay at the Saguaro Palm Springs (shown) for a colorful yet affordable option (under $200/night). Hike the scenic trails of nearby Joshua Tree National Park or take a short drive to Borrego Springs for incredible stargazing under clear desert skies. The town’s gorgeous mid-century architecture shines this time of year, as does its vibrant arts scene. Take the girls for a spa retreat and indulge in gourmet dining for a luxurious desert retreat during the cozier fall season.
Canary Islands
The Canary Islands, a Spanish archipelago off the coast of northwest Africa, are a dream destination in November. Tenerife, the largest island, offers famous beaches and some of the best stargazing in the world. Explore the colonial architecture of La Laguna and La Orotava, or dine on fresh seafood in the sleepy fishing village of Garachico. The island’s volcanic interior offers stunning landscapes perfect for hiking, while Santa Cruz offers a taste of modern art and architecture. New Zealand

November in New Zealand marks the start of spring, making it the perfect time to explore its natural beauty, from the vibrant green hills of Hobbiton to the spectacular fjords of Milford Sound and big cities like Auckland and Queenstown. Enjoy hiking, cycling, water sports and wine tasting. Just a short ferry ride from Auckland is Waiheke Island, known for its wineries, beaches and art galleries. Also hike Mount Eden, aextinct volcano for stunning views of the city.
